Objectives

The goal of Work Package 7 will be to meet project targets for pilot implementation of wearable computing scenarios in the selected IoT and Smart-City application domains, together with first QoS or QoE feedback reports. This will align to the special focus put on the Heath/Medical, Communication, Security/safety domains. The validation process in WP7 to support this objective will include several facets such as user panelization, fast-track prototyping, living labs, pre-deployment schemes in real working conditions.

WP7 will seek to achieve the following:

  • Make sure that users are involved appropriately in the work, based on the experiments and evaluation findings from early stages of the project, where initial use cases are tested and evaluated
  • Perform user studies needed by the project. These inform the description of minimal viable products which are specified through project business cases in Work Package 2 and will be deployed and tested through living labs and pilots at various domains sites
  • Perform a final evaluation of the demonstrator applications
  • Validate working minimal viable future products (derived through our research within Work Packages 2-6) with representative end-users where trials are conducted at representative environments.
  • Deliver the project’s optimisation, integration, testing and validation requirements; this will be an iterative process executed at different stages of development of the software, firmware, middleware and hardware
  • Test evaluation methodology and related tools, apply to corresponding developments.

The project will address three key Smart City application domains: [1] eHealth, [2] Omni-channel shopping and [3] Mobility/Transport & Access Control.
For each major target application domain:

  • Test elaboration and integration (from unit to systems tests)
  • Specifics: reliability, safety
  • Incremental scenario  integration
  • Organization of user return on  experience, trough
    •    User panels
    •    Living Labs, hosted at two sites (Ireland)
    •    Fast  prototyping and small series (early stages of the project)
    •    Pilots (last part of the project) hosted at three sites (To Be Defined..)

H2O will apply an iterative and user centred design methodology (e.g. employing 3-5 users in frequent tests [Nielsen, J, Usability Engineering, 1993, Academic Press]). This means that end users will be involved all through the work and that designs and prototypes will be tested iteratively during most of the project. The H2O partnership will work in a situated way – i.e. whenever possible we will test in real settings and situations. The final project pilots will include 2-3 larger evaluations of our demonstration applications where a larger number of end users will be involved.
