Wearable computing facilitates a new form of human-computer interaction. A small body-worn computer remains always on and ready and accessible, and in this regard, differs from hand held computers, laptops and smartphones. The H2O project capitalizes on former results from the Catrene eGo project: http://www.ego-project.eu
The purpose of the H2O project is to develop a human-centric secured architecture, to support the rapidly emerging wearable Computing and IoT markets.
The project will investigate the human to object interactions in different application areas of the smart city domain: communication, transportation, e-health and e-retail. Some technology bricks are still missing for the deployment of efficient wearable computing, as demonstrated by the successful eGo project, and all aspects of the new digital lifestyle are not yet fully understood.
Major assets delivered by the project will be:
- A high-performance, reliable, ultra low-power BCC (Body Communication Coupling) technology with a standardized physical layer, usable as communication enabler in any Body Area Network. The eGo project has demonstrated the need to improve the BCC interface for addressing harsh environments.
- A representative set of non-intrusive, secure, low-cost, always working, wearable devices, suitable for several application domains pertaining to the IoT or smart-city area (in particular, e-health, communication, safety and security, retail). The eGo project has prototyped some form factors acceptable by a large category of users.
- A fully trusted and privacy preserving transaction environment, enabling object(s) that the user wears or touches to seamlessly initiate applications or communication.
- An Open SDK and application certification tool-chain enabling third party developers to easily develop apps for wearable, guaranteeing that such app can be automatically verified before being remotely loaded in the wearable devices owned by the user.
- Complete reference and trusted security architecture, thus enabling seamless secure synchronization of wearable devices. This synchronization includes the recovery of credentials into a blank wearable device
- Pilot implementation of wearable computing scenarios in some IoT or Smart-City application domains, together with first QoS or QoE feedback reports.
The partners of the project cover the different skills required in the wearable/IoT value chain (technology suppliers, technology integrators, silicon manufacturers, embedded application developers, SW houses, digital security companies, designers, market analysts). The consortium includes iinstitutions as well as large and small companies strongly committed to promoting industrial standards.
